Course Overview

How this differs from an ordinary fighting class

The purpose of this page is to help women choose a starting point that fits them. You do not have to begin with hard punching and kicking or with contact sparring on day one. You begin by understanding your own body, safe distance, escape routes, and how to respond when someone pushes, pulls, or closes in.

IMAC Dojo draws on Wing Chun, Judo, and Karate so that students understand more than one kind of situation. Wing Chun covers close range and the centre line, Judo covers balance and falling safely, and Karate builds stance, distance, and confidence in movement.

  • Learn to stand in a way that does not give your balance away
  • Train angles and structure instead of meeting force head-on
  • Rehearse basic situations — a grabbed arm, a pulled bag, a blocked path, someone closing in
  • Understand the limits of self-defense, and practise choosing to leave first

How Wing Chun, Judo, and Karate help women

Wing Chun works on the centre line, angles, close range, and using the structure of the arms and torso sensibly, so it suits women who do not want to rely on strength alone.

Judo teaches balance, Ukemi — falling safely — and how to take a pull or a push without panicking. Karate builds stance, focus, discipline, and a clear foundation of movement.

  • Wing Chun: close range, the centre line, using the arms to defend and open a way out
  • Judo: balance, falling safely, and understanding pulling and pushing force
  • Karate: stance, distance, breathing, confidence, and discipline in training

Situations you can train

Good self-defense is not a guarantee that you will win every situation. It raises the chance that you notice sooner, stay calmer, and leave a risky place faster.

In class, students rehearse situations that occur in real life under controlled safety — a narrow walkway, a lift, a car park, a grabbed wrist, or someone closing in unexpectedly.

  • Keep distance and hold a guard without escalating the situation
  • Answer a grabbed arm or a pull using angles and body weight
  • Use voice, eye contact, and body position to create the moment to step away
  • Finish the situation by leaving, not by standing and trading force

Private Class and a safe start

Many students want to learn self-defense but worry about getting hurt, feeling awkward, or not knowing where to begin. Private Class is a good way to lay a personal foundation before deciding on a group class or continuing into the Wing Chun, Judo, or Karate courses.

The instructor assesses your goals, previous experience, physical limits, and comfort level, then orders the training to suit you, with safety first throughout. If you want to build on stance, discipline, and strength, adult karate can run alongside the self-defense fundamentals.

FAQ

FAQ before starting a women's self-defense class

Who is the women's self-defense class at IMAC Dojo for?
Short answer: It suits women, beginners, working adults, students, and anyone who wants to look after themselves better without starting from heavy contact sparring. The class begins with awareness, keeping distance, balance, and leaving a situation safely.
Do I need martial arts or fitness experience first?
Short answer: No. You can start from zero. The instructor adjusts to your experience, strength, and comfort level, with safety first and training kept under control.
Should women start with Wing Chun, Judo, or Karate?
Short answer: If you want close-range self-defense that uses structure instead of strength, Wing Chun is the easiest starting point to understand. If you want balance, falling safely, and taking force, Judo helps a great deal. Karate suits anyone who wants stance, discipline, confidence, and a stronger body. The instructor can assess your goals before you choose a course.
Is this class only Wing Chun?
Short answer: Wing Chun is the backbone for close range and structure, but the class connects Judo fundamentals for balance and safe falling, and Karate for stance, distance, and confidence, so you understand real situations more completely.
Can I train in a Private Class?
Short answer: Yes. Private Class suits anyone who wants to start privately, has a specific concern, or wants the instructor to build a foundation before joining a group class. Book in advance through LINE Official: @imacdojo.
Does a self-defense class guarantee 100% safety?
Short answer: No discipline can guarantee 100% safety. The goal of training is to increase awareness, understanding of distance, balance, and the chance of leaving a risky situation — not to stand and fight in every case.
